I’ve just read this, and Im wondering why ?!
The news is : MTV is mocking Vatican. Click Here to read the article
They are making a series called “PopeTown”.
Im really wondering why?? Is it so funnny ?? Is that how we are supposed to reward Pope for spreading peace and Love ??? Is this how we should be dealing with our holy symbols ?? Are Morals a material of fun ??
did the world run out of ridiculous things so we are making fun of religions ?? What the heck gives guys ?? Anybody hear me ??
My Question Is “Why” ?!
Do you think that Pope would be happy when he sees himself mocked in a silly cartoon ??
This is really annoying me !! Please , Somebody should do something !! This is ridiculous !!

This is Karin writing …
You are right Abed, nothing connected with ANY religion should be subjected to that! It would mean that one ridcules not only this one individual - but as well the millions of people who see in him their (religious) leader … that is nothing less than an insult!! It shows how terribly insensitive many people can be or in fact ARE whereas it is actually so simple: if I want to be respected - I need to GIVE respect! No more to it, just as simple as that! Nobody who slanders can be seriously expecting not to get the same in return. It is not difficult at all … one might think!

Hey anonymous, good to see you here posting. Karin, I have got to agree with you. I am not Catholic but have always had respect for the Pope. Here in the U.S. they have been making fun of Christians for along time. Now that Christians are starting to fight back by expressing their feelings, they get criticized. Between the cartoons about the Prophet Mohammad and mocking of a Christian leader who is well respected it is very disturbing. It seems as if they want God out of the picture.
Abed, you are right the Pope has not hurt anybody. It would be nice if people would show some respect for God and the ones that carrie’s his message. Good Post

I know what you mean Chet. It’s like some people can’t stand seeing other people beleive on something. They want god out of the picture, this is true. They a secular world, and they are making fun of every religious symbol whenever possible, and it’s a shame, we must at least pay some respect, even if we don’t beleive in what others beleive, we should respect people’s beleifs.

Thanks Chet!! I am (officially) catholic but do reject since MANY years any kind of splitting up of the Christian faith - I don’t think it was ever intended this way and believe it creates only more and more confusion and rivalry as each “sect” tends to think she knows it all better than the others! That all doesn’t mean though one is not oblidged to respect other religous leaders! These terrible cartoons about Prophet Mohammad made me furious and I absolutely sympathised with the Muslim population worldwide - that is of course only concerning the insult and anger but NOT the violence anywhere!!
You are right Chet, it really seems they want GOD out of the picture … what a shame!
Abed, I couldn’t agree more to what you say about paying respect to other people’s believe!! GREAT POST!

This is KAJ…
People who show disrespect to religious symbols do so because they have chosen not to treat God as God nor to be thankful to Him. This is because they are ignorant of the fact that He is true, and that He exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousnes in the world.
We who believe must live lives that tell the truth about Him, yet He is well able to defend Himself, don’t you think?
“Nobody who slanders can be seriously expecting not to get the same in return.” I don’t know about the Koran or other religious scriptures, but in the Bible God says that vengeance belongs to Him not to us. According to the Bible His kindness is meant to lead us to repentance of our decision to not acknowledge Him. It also says for us to overcome evil with good, not to repay evil for evil. If our response to offense is evil how are our lives telling the truth of God’s goodness?
“Mercy triumphs over judgment.”

Granted I haven’t seen the show you are speaking of, since I do not watch television (I wouldn’t know) but I think in a free country as the U.S. an excersize in freedom of speach to mock political or religious leaders is a common trait of satire.
If it is satyrical, then perhaps it has a reason for doing so? I don’t know. But the best way to find out is to view the show. Maybe it is worried with the Machiavellian nature of organized religion. And in the realm of satire it won’t be the first time the Pope has been made fun of. But I doubt he concerns himself much with crude paradies.
It entirely depends on purpose. Is the show meant to inform, entertain, and by what means? Is it intelligent yet controversial like ‘South Park’ or is it entirely silly like ‘The Simpsons’?
Yet for me personally, I think it is better to risk offense than to fall under the iron fist of despotism and loose all freedom. However, I agree that etiquette should play a major factor in deciding the ethical or moral high ground, and that because we have such freedoms -it doesn’t give us the right to abuse others.

Tristan Vick: Welcome, Im impressed by your great way of forming expressions and using vocabulary, you know English is not my mother language, and I enjoyed your way of forming expressions
Hmm, about the cartoon, I haven’t seen the cartoon either, but according to what’s written in the article I linked, I think It’s of the silly type ,rather than the controversial. I don’t think I’ll go too far to call it “satire”. I think It’s nothing more than a silly cartoon just used “Pope” to attract viewers and to draw attention, which in my humble opinion is totaly unnecessary.
I don’t know much about It, It might have a point, but I really think that freedom doesn’t mean that we can mock anybody just because it’s a free world? what if some people got offended ??
We Muslims got offended by the Cartoons against our Prophet Muhammad, and yet It opened doors for some ignorants to do some unecessary reactions like burning flags or attacking embassies, which is completely unacceptible in our society.I agree that we should avoid troubles, and have our freedom practiced in other areas where we don’t abuse anybody.
