Cartoon Exhibition For Palestine
The amazing cartoonist David Baldinger wrote about the following event:
The Wall Will Fall (Spirit Is Stronger Than Concrete)HANDALA 2007
Handala means bitterness. It’s the name of a desert plant growing in Palestine. It was also the name of a cartoon figure a boy who never shows his face - created by famous Palestinian cartoonist Naji al-Ali.
Naji al- Ali was assassinated in 1987 while living in London. This means 2007 will be the 20th anniversary of his death.
A cartoon exhibition featuring the works of world wide cartoonists will commemorate Naji al-Ali and 60 years of Israeli occupation.
This exhibition will be accompanied by painting action with international and Palestinian cartoonists on the Wall. Workshops in schools with schoolchildren and college students in Ramallah, Abu Dis, Jenin, Nablus, Al Khalil, Tulkarem, Bil’in etc.
In the name of Palestinians, and the free men in the world, I am wholeheartedly thanking you David Baldinger for this breathtaking cartoon.
My favorite sketch of Hanthala is this:

Thanks Abed. It is a small thing I can do. Also thanks for correcting the “handala” thing. It was mistranslated in my original invitation letter. I will correct it.
Oh yes…I am hardly “amazing” but thanks anyway.

You’re welcome David
The cartoon is pretty impressive !! Looking forward seeing your contribution to the exhibition
Naji Al-Ali was lucky enough not to live and witness this Wall. Had he witnessed this wall, he would’ve sketched something similar.
Hanthala will piss on this wall everyday…

i like him .. handala is a great cartoon really .. the think is that he always gives us his back to show that he is unknown person .. without ID without history without language and country .. and this indecates that even Mr. Baldinger can write and express some feelings toward our home .. it’s no important who u are and where u from .. as long as u are a human
