I enjoy it although only when I really have something to say. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to simply force myself to write a new post every day. It’s not like brushing your teeth.
I used to journal a lot. Just to help get my thoughts out on paper. It seemed to help clarify things. I enjoy blogging now because not only do I get my thoughts out - in a somewhat coherant fashion- I also receive feedback. Its refreshing to hear that other people have similar thoughts and ideas that I do. In the healing process, its also nice to hear that what you’re feeling is legitimate. It’s, frankly, a morale booster! My readers have been very kind!
Great question. I’ll be interested to see some of your other responses!
I answered this somewhere in some post some time ago…
anonymous personal blogging is a unique outlet for my thoughts that can’t really be expressed anywhere else. At least that’s why I started blogging, nowadays that’s changed some…
Hamede: This is the answer most people should write by the way !
Chikapappi: lool, interesting!! so you just talk as much as you can on your blog we are all blabbers, bloggers are traditional blabbers
Hani Obaid: blogging is enjoyable I agree, and sometimes I really have nothing to say! It’s a homework lol
Mariyah: did I ever tell you that I can see a very successful influential writer ?? yes you are! you can really express the inner feelings of yours so eloquently that we actually feel them ! way to go Mariyah. As a matter of fact, I don’t feel any better when I write on my blog, it’s about the same to me
Asoom: I started with similar intentions, but I was stupid enough to assume that nobody I know on real life will find out about my blog, then they did, and I stopped writing personal stuff. Bad!
LuLu…!: Sharing is good. Although I don’t feel comfortable sharing my thoughts with everybody..
KJ:”I have many reasons to blog”…please mention them, I’m interested
what will happen if I stopped blogging ?? Nothing at all the amount of time wasted online will be reduced that’s all
Temi: It’s really nice to get personal satisfaction in blogging ! I don’t get it though…
Ola: commentatek mash2allah 3am tet7assan…ba7essek betjarbi el nokat fi bloggi abel ma etjrabeeha 3al nas !!! lool…bloggek msh ethbaat wojood…bloggek belongs to a genius patriotic girl
Shokran gazillan! Your compliments are very encouraging!
Different things work for different people. Maybe you could try a another approach to your blog. Write about politics, or art, or music…whatever interests you. One blog I’ve read, that I thoroughly enjoy, is about old postcards and the story behind them. A simple but unique approach.
old post cards, interesting. Actually I really like to read random personal blogs, specially for those who live in countries very far away. I stalked couple of blogs for two years now without even commenting! I enjoy looking into other people’s life.
I started this blog to make a private persoanl journal, but I ended up talking about the important elements of my universe: politics, college, work, relationship, humor… I am in a phase of reconsidering if this blog is worthwhile, and I’m seriously looking at the benefit to cost ratio..and the safety of this online venting.
yes Mariya, there’s a very promising writer inside you, buried with walls of sadness and disappointments, but I think this is part of our world, part of the fun maybe. I think you should unleash that writer inside you in a book or short story..try
at first.. it was because it felt good to know that someone out there might be reading my most personal thoughts that i felt that i couldnt share with people that know me, so why not with strangers?
now it’s just something i do when i get the feeling that if i dont write it down itll be a thought wasted.
oh and because typing is the only thing that calms me down when im upset
See man you mentioned something critical here: “the time I waste online” - you consider it wasting or spending? There’s a big difference!
The reasons I blog are many, some I cannot say, but what I can say is that not writing is a form of suicide, just like forgetting. Both are a renunciation of the only true thing we ultimately possess, our past and our experiences.
And it is enriching to learn of others’ experiences and days and woes and, most of all, personalities. I’m a natural-born psychologist, and the human psyche (and soul) are my points of interest. Seeing how people interact, think, formalize, deduce, argue and discuss is a great door to learn.
I messed up in real life and I let my emotions and strong opinions and where I stand on things get between me and the people around me.. I let my past, my experiences, my fears take over and forgot how to be me, my sweet, simple me.. by the time I discovered what I’ve done, the damage was already done and I became isolated and sometimes in life you don’t get second chances..My blog gave me a chance to go back to be this simple human being..life is complicated enough away from this virtual world and virtual friends..so this is my break from it all
I don’t have a specific answer to why I blog. I started out because a friend of mine started a blog, and I just got hooked on it. But I continue because I think it’s a kind of a sounding board for me, a place where I can lay things out and step back and reexamine things. This might be a little selfish, but I also blog to have a place to document myself, my experiences.
I also agree with KJ, blogging is a great social learning experience.
you screwed up in real life ?? I can’t believe that ! you are emotional and severely affected by our fateful situation in the middle east (I am too, as you know)…but what can we do..I’m letting go finally
keep writing, you are - as you said- simple. Stick to that, and keep writing. By the way I get so many negative energy from fights or political arguments, this is why I simply stopped. Maybe this is one downside..or is it an advantage ? to be honest, I gained ALOT of my debating skills from blogs!
Queenie:
blogging is a good experience, however we shouldn’t let it absorb us and waste our precious time
It basically applied to online material in general, not just blogs. People like to suffocate themselves with lots of useless garbage online and offline. We feel obliged to read all blogs, sites, news, and keep grandma’s lantern in the attic.
I periodically clean up google reader.
Anyhoo, since I just know you I can’t judge (plus you might be different online than offline). I will have to go read through your posts to see how you started and evolved.
I blog because I am naturally a very private person. I need my blog as an outlet to b***h about all the crap I need to whine about (but don’t actually complain about in real life) so that I don’t die of a heart attack before I’m 25
Plus, I work such messed up hours that my “daily social interaction” is via blogs, so it helps me feel less isolated and cut off from the world.
P.S. How did people in your real life find out about your blog?
I blog to for world peace and make the world a better place…(KiDDiNG)

But what you should ask yourself is, if you had not blogged for the past year, what might have been different?

I thought I know why. But at this point, I have no clue, whatsoever.

it’s debatable whether blogging is a waste of time or not
http://abedhamdan.com/2006/10/07/tips-blog-time-management/
I wrote about it (by the way, I lost all comments after 25th comment because of the old migration from old blogger.com)
To me, I think it’s a waste, I can make better of use of my time reading or studying or testing something
you are into psychology ? can you analyze my personality?
