By an exquisite effort of Summer, this video of Jerusalem came to existence:

This effort is not to be under estimated. This is a sheer evidence of the identity of the city.

A city that is claimed to be pure Israeli. Here you see Arab Muslims, living in ancient houses, in a city that does not look Israeli. It’s a city whose inhabitants rebel every two decades or so to preserve their identity. It’s a holy city where god is to be worshiped. It’s a city that’s supposed to be peaceful, but alas peace knows not of.

Humor and Marriage and Palestine and Personal and Politics and ThoughtsAbed Hamdan on 15 Jul 2007 11:01 pm

Yes, I spent the best 10 days of my life in Palestine! This is why I didn’t blog in a while :)

So much to write about, and so many things in my mind! Palestine is magnificent! I can’t write enough about the beauty of the occupied territories of Palestine.

In Palestine, everything is different. The trees, the stones, the smell, the wind, the food, the people, the buildings…I can go on forever! It’s a shame that war is taken place there.

So much to say about the beauty of Palestine. And of course, so much to say about the Israeli occupation, stupid interrogations in the Allenby Bridge, screwed up check points scattered all over the West Bank, and of course Fateh vs. Hamas insanity.

Well, let’s start with the beauty of Palestine. I visited : Ramallah, Tulkarem, Jenin, and many villages in between. With Ramallah being the most modernized city in the west bank, Jenin is more like a big village. Tulkarem is something in between. Since beauty is best sensed through the eye, I took photographs of almost everything!

I finally bought a flickr pro account so I can upload as much photos as I want, here are the photos organized in sets according to the cities they were taken in:

1) ‘Arrabeh (3arrabeh) [ Our old roots belongs here].
2) Ya’bad (ya3bad) [ Ya'bad is the village my family belongs to].
3) Zabda [ Small village, belongs to the family].
4) Ramallah

and yes I didn’t take photos of all the cities, I forgot to take the camera to Jenin and Tulkarem :P

Almost everywhere you wander in Palestine, you will see pictures of martyrs. Pictures are hung on traffic lights, houses, walls, …
They’re silent pictures immortalizing the struggle of the Palestinians against the occupation. Almost every family have lost a child or two in the last Palestinian uprising (intifada), including our family.

The Israelis interrogated me in the crossing bridge between Jordan and Palestine because I haven’t visited Palestine in years! As funny and stupid as it may sound but it’s a routine measurement! The interrogation went smoothly. A 20s something guy with a Lebanese Arabic accent (a Durzi maybe) asked me few questions. What’s you name? Where have you been? when are you getting married? How is life in Jordan? Are there hot girls in Jordan ?
with questions like these, I didn’t know whether I should laugh or keep my mouth shut. I answered formally without even smiling. Perhaps it’s my lack of experience, but I was very anxious. Anyway, the journey was pretty safe.

Inside Palestine, there are check points almost everywhere just to make the Palestinian life even harder. What bugged us most is the stupid rule they’re imposing on every creature living in Jenin! if your haweyyeh (Israeli ID) is issued in Jenin, then you’re not allowed to leave Jenin!! They allow you to enter Jenin, but leaving Jenin would require you to take different roads or to rely on the mood of the Israeli soldiers.

Everybody in Palestine have a story to tell about the check points. Ranging from the most humiliating encounter you could ever imagine to the funniest one. I heard many stories about Israeli soldiers asking men to take off their pants in the street (what’s so interesting about naked men ?). Some got arrested for no reason. Some were beaten up savagely. Some were asked to start a party in the middle of the street while others were asked to belly dance in the street (again, what’s so interesting in dancing men?). I’ve been asked about my age. In Ramallah I’ve been asked about my job, and when my answer was “fresh graduate”, both soldiers exchanged weird glances let me pass so I can get married. Rookh ettjawwaz (go get married, in a distorted Arabic accent). I don’t know why the Israeli soldiers are very concerned about my single hood.

Almost everybody in Palestine is talking about Fateh and Hamas. People are split, with the majority in the west bank supporting Fateh. Everybody in Palestine is a politician, and everybody in Palestine have a better vision than all the political leaders. Specially those who spend most of the day in cafes smoking and drinking coffee. It’s the new issue to talk about, and people in Palestine have distinguished ways of having fun.

One more thing I noticed in some Palestinian villages is that many people are making their living by stealing things from illegal Israeli settlement! It’s a win-win job! The Israelis intentionally make it very easy for Palestinians to steal their goods (especially cars and motor cycles) so that Israelis can get paid by Israeli insurance companies. Many Palestinians in Ya’bad (my village) have Israeli friends from the nearby Israeli settlement who make deals by trade Israeli cars to Palestinians for low prices, and fool the Israeli insurance companies. Many Palestinians are comfortable with stealing from Israelis as a pay back because Israelis stole Palestinian lands. Since when theft is ok ??

I’ve got many stories to tell, but enough said for now.

I missed Palestine already.

The amazing cartoonist David Baldinger wrote about the following event:

The Wall Will Fall (Spirit Is Stronger Than Concrete)

HANDALA 2007

Handala means bitterness. It’s the name of a desert plant growing in Palestine. It was also the name of a cartoon figure a boy who never shows his face - created by famous Palestinian cartoonist Naji al-Ali.

Naji al- Ali was assassinated in 1987 while living in London. This means 2007 will be the 20th anniversary of his death.

A cartoon exhibition featuring the works of world wide cartoonists will commemorate Naji al-Ali and 60 years of Israeli occupation.

This exhibition will be accompanied by painting action with international and Palestinian cartoonists on the Wall. Workshops in schools with schoolchildren and college students in Ramallah, Abu Dis, Jenin, Nablus, Al Khalil, Tulkarem, Bil’in etc.

+David Baldinger Blog+

In the name of Palestinians, and the free men in the world, I am wholeheartedly thanking you David Baldinger for this breathtaking cartoon.

My favorite sketch of Hanthala is this:

Jordan and Politics and ThoughtsAbed Hamdan on 02 May 2007 01:45 pm

The rich, the filthy rich, and the not so filthy rich. I’m not sure if we can distinguish between different levels of filthiness. I’m not an economist, never was, and never will be. But Amman is becoming worse everyday.

People are either too rich, too cool, or else they are classified as Nawar. The 7afartal. Those evil poor guys who don’t have enough money to buy clothes from expensive malls, those girls who aren’t cool enough to drive Mercedes Benz and can’t afford a Chanel dress.

This is nasty.

I’m not talking about private corporations. Those illegitimate private tyrannies ! No, this is not what I’m really talking about. I’m talking about people. About “cool” people who walk in the streets of Amman, with headsets and empty brains. Those who don’t know anything about the history of Jordan. Those who can’t talk about their country abroad.

Those fools, who classified people as either cool or 7afartal. How could they judge the poor ?? Just because they don’t have enough money to buy cars (or they’re not stupid enough to take loans to buy cars) and use public transportation!

Speaking of public transportations, I used to roam East Amman with less than 1 JD! can anybody tell me why can’t we go to certain places in West Amman using public transportation ?? Abdoun for example ??

Jordan is not West Amman. West Amman is not Jordan. Jordan is Petra. Jordan is Kerak, and Umm Qais. Jordan is the beautiful mountains of Ajloun. Jordan is the strong Refugee camps. Jordan is land of Jordanians, Palestinians, and Caucasians. All under one flag, with common convictions, sharing one beautiful dream of living peacefully.

Being filthy rich means you’ve got lots of money. Nothing wrong with having so much money that it comes out of your nostrils. But it’s a felony to forget about those who live in slums! In refugee camps, in villages. Not only did they forgot about those poor, but also they’re classifying them as the ” evil not-so-cool 7afartal ” who uses public transportation and who don’t go to “Blue Fig” cafe.

What can I say ?? Ignorance is awful.

What can we do?

I urge all my fellow bloggers to write about this very same issue. Even if you’re not in Jordan, write about it in your country.

Talking and writing about an issue can affect the way people think and behave, so don’t underestimate the power of ideas!

If you’re not a blogger, you can always talk about this ugly disease to your friends, family, colleagues, ..etc. Nothing is inevitable, everything can be reversed.

My lovable brother TheArabObserver has also initiated a tag about the very same topic but from a different perspective. Click Here.

To the United Nations, Amnesty International and Red Crescent

To the Kings, Princes, Presidents, Leaders of the World, and all final authorities in the international issues

To all Human Rights World Organizations, Societies and Institutions

To all journalists and media professionals

To various Islamic and religious Organizations and to the clerics who always search for truth

To every Official in every part of the globe

To the whole world, we address this letter in which we demand our right to protect one of the most important religious and historical symbols, Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is being demolished and destroyed by the Israeli occupation forces without any intervention by the side of the authorities responsible for protecting the political and religious rights. The Palestinians are trying to defend Al-Aqsa alone and are exposed to gun shots, torture and killing because they are trying to practice their religious rights of performing their prayers in the mosque, and because they are trying to defend the most important place of worship in their country, history and religion.

Israel abuses all religions on daily basis and violates the sanctity of the religious shrines by digging around Al-Aqsa Mosque near to its bases. It also does not respect freedom of expression and practice of religious ceremonies by denying Palestinians and Muslims the access to Al-Aqsa mosque for prayers. These actions contradict the human rights laws and they stand against religion and principles of humanity and justice. They also contravene with Article 53 of 1977 Geneva Protocol I additional to the Geneva Convention of1949 which bans any acts of hostility directed against historic monuments, works of art or places of worship which constitute the cultural or spiritual heritage of people, noting that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a sacred place for Muslims and one of the religious symbols and historical monuments that means a lot not only to Muslims and Palestinians but to the Arab Homeland, the World and Humanity.

In addition to all of the above, the Israeli aggressions against Al-Aqsa Mosque are considered as a war crime according to 1998 Statute of the International Criminal Court.
Thus, Israel violates all laws, charters, rights and conventions and commits war crimes before the eyes of everybody without reaction from any official or international organization to prevent such aggression, oppression and offence to religion, law, freedom and the whole world.

In this context, we demand every person in position of responsibility, every international organization, every satellite channel, every media professional, all those to whom this letter is addressed and all those who read it to immediately demand halting violations, destruction, demolition and digging of the scared sanctities in Al-Aqsa Mosque, and ensure access to it for worshippers to practice their right of worship and stop injustice done to the Palestinian people by the occupation forces that continue to torture and kill the Palestinian citizens.

A special appeal to all Arab Leaders,

We the Arab bloggers, would like to inform you that your complete silence toward the Zionist destructive acts in Al-Aqsa Mosque is another evident on your irresponsibility, your lack of fervency and the absence of affiliation and honor values. Thus the nation, in all its great stubborn members and believers, will never forgive your silence and feebleness. And, from now on, the history will never show any mercy toward whomever squander the Muslim and Arab rights. Your people, at their moment of anger, will sue you before you being sued by God.

We will never keep silent toward our rights. From here, we announce our campaign which will never stop until we achieve justice and equity in this world.
Thus we the Arab Bloggers, will carry the Arab and Muslim voice. And we will adopt our causes by ourselves, inviting all the others to support us, and support the basic human right in guarding and protecting the religious, humanitarian and historical heritage without any negligence or weakness or falsification of truth.
Let us take part in offering a better life for all where violence toward any one at any place or time is forbidden.

We will continue demanding all the addressees of these rights that we will never waive and we will be waiting for a conceptual and practical reply from all of you.

We thank you in advance for all what you will be doing in order to achieve justice, and we will present special thanks in our blogs to all those who take a step in response to our letter.

Please reply to: bloggersvoice@yahoo.com

Best Regards

Arab Bloggers.

[ Update]

Aljazeera journalist asked Al-Tantawi what’s his opinion regarding the desturction of parts of Al-Aqsa. Al-Tantawi was not aware of what’s happening and was completely careless. He asked the journalist to tell him the details of the situation, and then he asked her if this is happening today…then he asked why Israel does such thing, then he said if Israel is destroying Al-Aqsa, then a strict measure should be taken to stop this attack. The Journalist asked him how could this attack be stopped ? specially that Israel prevented anybody from entering Al-Aqsa. Then he said that all Muslims in Jerusalem should stand in the face of the caterpillars, he responded ignorantly, that Palestinians should stand, and it’s their problem, men and women! (mass suicidal), then if they standed infront of the caterpillars, then all the world will support them (them as if it’s not his business), and then they should victimize themselves and shouldn’t ask anybody to stop it. The journalist told him that Israel forbid any Palestinian from entering Al-Aqsa, then he responded stupidly by answering there’s nothing called “forbid” and those caterpillars are driven by people.

Then he asked the journalist, “What do you want from me ???” . she said she wanted to hear the opinion of the AL-Azhar imam, he answered “Do you want anything else?” “Goodbye”.

[/update]

I’m irked, irritated, and sick of this!!!

but as I promised myself to respect my fellow bloggers and readers, I won’t speak dirty here.

This is what we get from Al-Azhar, and the “imam” Al-Tantawi, he speaks of Al-Aqsa as if it’s not his business!! of course!! I wonder what problems does he care about ?? and Im wondering how much does it take to bribe some people here.

blaming the Palestinians for the destruction of Al-Aqsa, as if the Palestinians didn’t suffer in the last 6 decades, and as if the whole world didn’t prevent every single penny from entering Palestine.

As if Al-Azhar did anything to Palestine.

you know what, I don’t wanna start flaming on Al-Azhar! this is not the time and place for this.

but sorry, this time, my mouth won’t shut. This is the most irresponsible, ignorant, stupid, lame, ugly, bribed, careless, and retard speech I’ve ever heard.

he speaks of actions and yet he does nothing but speaking and telling Palestinians what to do. He wants a mass suicidal sqauds of Palestinians in the face of the Israeli tanks to protect Al-Aqsa, and that’s how he will move his lazy butt and do something.

Why, of course! It’s not his screwed up responsibility. Actually, he has no responsibilities at all. Nobody does.!! just eat, sleep, and get paid for defending your Pharaoh. and That’s it!! you are Ameer el mo2mineen!

=== Scroll Down for Updates ===

Sunday, the 5th of November 2006 was one of the worst days ever. I’ve been deeply depressed last night, I’ve never been depressed this way since the year 2001. Very cold rainy night. Cloudy morning, it’s probably one of the coldest days of the year in Irbid city. I just went to university, without talking to anybody. My mind was paralyzed, as well as my body. I was like a dead blue body, giving a yellow smile to anybody that bother saying good morning.

I was thinking about the curse of being a Palestinian. Usually people at our age are depressed due to breaking up with their girl friends or because they didn’t get the latest fancy iPod. But being a Palestinian, means that you should always be stressed, watching the news, wishing that one day you will be able to see your cousins that have been thrown in the Israeli jails for the next 500 yrs for no reason or wondering about how could it be if your x relative is still alive.

You can’t meet any Palestinian family that haven’t lost one or two of its children. Not to mention living in the possibility of hearing that your uncle got shot because was buying bread.

What really hit me last night is the post of my dear friend Sharifo (Click Here for Sharifo’s post in Arabic) who worte about his friend that got shot in Gaza in the recent brutal, coward, immoral, scandalous, hopeless attack against Gaza. For god sake, more than 40 56 people got killed, more than 250 wounded, many children and women got shot for no reason! worse yet, It doesn’t seem to end anysoon, and this attack is approved by the fucked up super powers.

Sharifo’s friend, Hamza Al-Attar has been shamelessly shot by a coward terrorist Israeli soldier, he is in comma right now. Hamza is journalist works for a local news agency. Yes, a young journalist who has been in business for two months only. As Sharifo described him, he is a young, ambitious guy who works hard to make his dreams come true. But this is obviously a crime. It’s a crime to be journalist and let the world know the truth. It’s a crime to have dreams and to be Palestinian. It’s a crime to be a human being and live in Gaza. It’s a big a crime. It’s a crime to be Palestinian and live decently.

This unfortunate crime reminded me of people I’ve lost years ago, and I know how this situation feels, being shocked and numb. You’re extremely sad, but you shouldn’t let your enemy see you sad, you shouldn’t let your enemy know that his plans are affecting you. All that your enemy should see is strength, faith, and endless tolerance. Tears are forbidden, and sadness is something should be depicted by a smile. You should be the source of hope for everybody else even if you need hope more than anything else.

For Sharifo, I wouldn’t say much. I know this guy through blogs only, but I could sense his “Palestinianness”, and hence he will be the one who give everybody support even when he’s the one who need it the most.

=== Update : Video of Journalist Hamza getting shot, uploaded by Sharifo ===

=== Update ===

Sharifo said that Hamza woke up from his comma, but has serious damages in his lungs, please pray for him, and the other 250 victims at the hospitals of Gaza!

The world is going crazy these days, angry protests here and there, and .. hmm, I don’t know what to say. This is not good for anybody, here I mean the conflict about Islam and pope speech.

Some might argue that this anger will take some time and then everybody will forget what happened and things will cool again. I beleive this is way too dangerous. We still remember when Bush declared a “crusader war” , and then he aplogized and said it was a “slip of the tongue”. Then, the Danish cartoons, the facism, and lately what pope said.

Do you know why do I think that this is a very dangerous ?? because, It’s not only provoke for counter-terror attacks, but also it justifies what terrorists do, and beleive me this is the most dangerous thing. There’s a non-questionable denial of all forms of terror attacks across the Arab/Muslim world, specially between the educated people but, however, after we hear such irresponsible statements like “crusader war” or “facism” or whatevever it becomes highly likely that some educated will at least sympathize with terrorists. For example, when we hear terms like “crusader war”, we immediately hear and see some Al-Qaeda people on TV justifying their attacks by “stopping the crusader war”, and this happened before, and still happening.

In response to Pope’s late speech, Al-Qaeda promised to continue its attacks against the west in response to the disrespect of Islam and Muslims, and this is sick. In the last two weeks, we witness the murder of some British tourists in Jordan, and we’re getting enough of this really.

Now the question is, what’s the end of this madness ?? where are we going ??

What a piece of news !!!

The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has just started his own blog !!

The blog is avalialbe in four langauges : Arabic + Iranian + English + French.

Take a look at it !

http://www.ahmadinejad.ir/

His first post:
Ahmadinejad wrote about how Ayatollah Khomeini began to appeal to him when the ayatollah was in exile during the 1960s and 70s.

He wrote: “The more I became familiar with his thought and philosophy, the more affection I had for that divine leader and his separation and absence was intolerable for me.”

He also used his blog entry to criticise the United States and to reflect upon the 1980-88 war with Iraq, when he served in the elite Revolutionary Guard.

He called Saddam Hussein, the former Iraqi president, the “aggressor” and wrote that international organisations tried to “distort and hide the facts that Saddam was the aggressor and that the arrogant powers had fully supported him”.

The blog was 2,000 words long in English and dated Friday. At the end of the blog, Ahmadinejad wrote: “From now onwards, I will try to make it shorter and simpler.”[ Source ]

Apology
I would like to apologize from all of you people, I know I’ve been away for a while, I didn’t get the chance to keep an eye on my blog, and on other friend’s blog. I was late replying comments, though I replied them all, as I always do. For my friends who sent me emails, thank you very much, I will reply them all in the next two days nshallah. I had some exams, and project due dates, so I was dead, and still dead.

Hate Emails
Recently, I’ve been receiving continous emails, most of them are hate emails, and i received some threatening emails. I really can’t understand the mentality of those who send such emails, they know I can unpublish my email, or blog anonymously, but I won’t do such thing. I’ve read my posts again, and I haven’t found anything offending in my posts. Despite, I found many comments that offend me, I’ve been called : Nazi, Terrorist, criminal, [ enter the dirties word you know here ]. I really don’t give a damn, I tried to be patient most of them, because I feel sorry for those people, I know the truth is blocked from their minds, and they’ve been raised in ignorant racist environment.

Trust me, fear doesn’t work with me, I just attached some porn photos and sent them back to those who threatened me personally, and I sent them some replies that pissed them off, again, fear doesn’t work with me at all, If you want something, just come here and discuss it, conversations are accepted, else I will tease you, and I will piss you off, take my words on this.

That’s what I was talking about a week earlier…

Yes, Americans. Your government used the Veto to prevent stopping the war, and your smart bombs & stupid government caused this disgrace.
A Massacre by your weapons took place, most of the victims are children. Your smart bombs either kills or wounds in a brutal manner.

Live in this shameful disgrace, there’s no dignity left. The worse is yet coming, in the next few days. Thanks for your taxes, smart bombs and stupid government.
